Meat Processing in New Zealand

Please note the contact numbers provided for the MPI vet’s office on-site are for veterinary queries only.

For stock procurement/bookings please contact the premises number.

Things to Note:

  • Certificates MUST name the destination premises; “nearest works” is not suitable.
  • Certificates are only valid for seven days and as per vet instructions.
  • No alterations can be made, except by a veterinarian.
  • The supplier is responsible for all notifications and logistics, but you should be aware of the arrangements and remind suppliers. If required by the company, suppliers should contact the plant using the premises' phone number, not the vet’s office.
  • As a rule, processors need to know when animals with a vet certificate are being sent to their plant.
  • The certifying vet should ask the supplier which processor they normally send their animals to. Some processors will not accept animals with a vet certificate if they are not regular clients. This information may be relevant to veterinary decision-making.
